Flash Player 9 on FireFox & Internet Explorer now requires manual shut down of the browser for installation. No more passive install within the browser at run time. Seriously, is the average internet user going to remember the exact URL of the stupid video they were desperately trying to watch once they’ve closed and reopened their browser?
Google Video, YouTube, etc….will these carry the consumer market through the Flash Player install hassle? Is watching a video of a guy getting hit in the nuts with a rake enough to make you close the window you’re in, install a piece of software, then relaunch the browser and hope you can find the page you were on again?
The first time I tried to download Flash Player 9, I got to a page where Adobe had the box to install the Yahoo toolbar checked BY DEFAULT. It seems they may have fixed that, but what a crock. I just want the passive, unobtrusive Flash Player installation of days past. Adobe needs take a lesson from the company they swallowed and make Flash a near-invisible install for all who choose to use the software.

well, at least in firefox 2, they might be shooting to invoke the “restart firefox” ability and restore the last session on launch. which, would eases the pain. IE users are still left in the dust, but weren’t they always?
