iPod Touch Applications, Where Have You Gone?

Knife in Apple

I’ve got it, do you? As I mentioned in my previous post, Apple launched their “January Software Upgrade” for the iPod Touch on Tuesday, January 15 to a resounding thud for many folks.

I was one of the “lemmings” as one commenter noted that bought into the hype and tried to buy the software soon after it was announced. I, like many others, clicked the “Buy Now” button in iTunes multiple times and am now trying to get a refund from Apple for all but the one set of apps I wanted to purchase. They sent me this nice message today:

“Dear Corey,

I understand you purchased the item “January Software Upgrade” twice. I know this can be very upsetting and I would like to further assist you regarding this matter.

The order containing this item is currently processing. Your request is flagged for follow-up and I will contact you once I have more information about your order. Please note that processing can take up to five business days from the date of purchase. Thank you for your patience in this matter.

Sincerely,

Pavel

Apple removes purchase option for iPod Touch SoftwareSince I figured out how to get the applications to load on my iPod Touch I’m happy to wait a few days until Apple sorts out their accounting. What I found quite interesting is the fact that today, Apple removed the purchase option for the iPod Touch applications. I think that the voices around the web were heard and Apple wisely stopped selling the apps while they work out the kinks in their system.

They did add this bit of red text to the iPod Touch applications page in iTunes:

“Synch your iPod touch and click Check for Update to get up-to-date before buying the January Software Upgrade.”

Wish I would have seen that before I purchased the software more than once but hey, I should have known better having bought Apple products before. Early adopters beware.

This Jan update thing is a totally f___ up, first we shouldn’t be paying for it in the first place (new owners apparently get it for free) second if the buy it now tab is off the system then they should shut down all the advertising - it’s on the front page of itunes for godsake and lastly how the hell did the download/admin get this screwed up in the first place. Morons !!!

I was one of those who begrudgingly paid for the apps package for the iPod Touch. I almost bought it twice as the first few times I tried to sync up with it iTunes the new apps didn’t appear.

Sorry to hear you paid for it twice, but good to know that I wasn’t the only one having problems.

Do you know what’s the funniest thing in this App thing? I actually bought the iPod Touch AFTER the Jan Update and ANYWAY iTunes Store is not givin’ me free the apps.

Maybe that’s because I’m from Mexico and Apple don’t even think my country exist. Or maybe it’s just some of the bullshit you’re living.

  4. Free is not a nice word from Stevie. Especially when he makes more money at the end of Feb with a newer iPhone and we buy it because it will be 3G and 32gig!

I went into the Apple store today looking for the missing January software upgrade. They couldn’t find it either, it’s no where on itunes and you can just go round and round going to the Apple website, clicking on the upgrade whcih then sends you back to itunes with only the “ok” button to push. They were really nice at the Apple store though and offered to give me a whole new ipod touch which does contain the upgrade. I had to decline belive it or not because mine is engraved and the store does not offer engraving.
