Based on the response from a previous post, I’ve decided to do some further research on the phenomena that is Magic Johnson’s Showtime Barbeque Sauce. Here’s the skinny from today’s grocery store trip.
- 6 bottles remain on the shelf, all quite dusty (UPDATE 20070628: 3 more bottles have beed added to the back of the shelf for a total of 9)
- Purchased two more bottles so now I own four
- I have yet to try the sauce so I have no opinion on its showtime-ness
When I checked out, the cashier was shocked by the dust on the b
ottles I was purchasing and actually apologized. I told him that I’m considering making a documentary on the unusual sauce and he said it was the first time he’d ever seen a bottle. After a bit of thought, I realized that when I was at the store last month there were 10 bottles on the shelf and I bought two…today I bought two more and there are 6 bottles left at the store. Seems I’m the only person buying the sauce in my neighborhood.
If you see Magic Johnson’s Showtime BBQ Sauce stocked at a store near you, please let me know!
The saga shall continue…

My mom got a couple bottles of this for me at a surplus/discount place. Much to my surprise, it is a really good sauce! You wanna sell yours?
I found a bottle of this at an obscure grocery store while in Vegas. I regret not buying some when I had the chance.
I actually know the guy who created the sauce, “Chef Damon.” Its actually delicious. You should try it on some chicken. The sauce is available at my local Pavillions. (I live in South Pasadena, Ca)
I bought a bottle at a discount wholesale department store, and used it. I was quite amazed. It had an original flavor. Probably wouldn’t buy it again, but not bad at all…..
