In a move destine to make the Tron Guy shake in his skin tight boots, Canadian born inventor Troy Hurtubise has created what looks to be the ultimate in Comic-Can regalia. Mr. Hurtubise’s invention is for real, however (according to him), and he hopes to begin mass producing the modern day suit of armor for U.S. and Canadian soldiers in the near future.
The suit is designed to be affordable and lightweight. According an article in the Hamilton Spectator the armor can “stave off bullets, explosives, knives and clubs.” In fact, the suit has withstood the impact of gun blasts already (while empty of course). The fearless Hurtubise has even offered to be in the suit for the bullet tests saying “I would do it in an instant. Bring it on.”
Keep in mind that it was Hutubise that was featured in the 1996 documentary Project Grizzly, where he donned the imfamous “Grizzly Bear Suit” which also withstood shotgun blasts and bashings from various sticks and clubs. Check out some video footage from the movie and Quentin Tarantino’s thoughts on the Charlie Rose Show. Hey, if Quentin vouches for the guy then who are we to argue?
The city of North Bay, Ontario, Canada lays claim to the inventor Hurtubise. The World 66 Travel Guide states that North Bay is “Home of the infamous Troy Hurtubise who created and personally tested a 147 pound grizzly bear-proof armor suit.” Our hats off to you North Bay.

UPDATE: Tron Guy himself, Jay Maynard, has posed the question “Am I the prototypical ‘funny dressed geek’?” on his LiveJournal page. Jay, I think you have achieved ICON status in the web world! :)

Isn’t it funny we both had the same idea when reading about Hurtubise? That Jay found out about our weblog entries immediately is just another proof of his geekiness…
Finding out about blog entries that mention the Tron Guy is easy: Google Blog Search can generate an RSS feed of the results, and it’s a short hop from there to a LiveJournal syndication on my friends page…
