SunRocket Took My Money and Ran

SunRocket

How nice. SunRocket (the VoIP phone service) has ceased operations AFTER they issued me a $214.11 charge for service I had cancelled months earlier. The charge posted to my credit card on June 29, 2007. Here’s the series of email exchanges:

Them (via email after I called their support number and talked with a human):
“Response (MaryAnn - 29741) - 07/03/2007 10:45 PM
As per our conversation today I informed you that I have officially cancelled your account and any credit issued will be issued back to the credit card we have on file.
Customer (Entered by MaryAnn - 29741) - 07/03/2007 10:45 PM You called in today because you wanted to know why you were charged when the account was cancelled.”

Me: “Customer (Corey Scribner) - 07/12/2007 01:26 PM
My credit card has still not been issued a credit for $214.11 for the SunRocket charge on 06/29/07. When will this credit be issued?”

Them: “Response (Patricia - 29281) - 07/12/2007 02:25 PM
Thank you for contacting SunRocket Member Services. Once your account is canceled, our system will automatically calculate any refund due to you. Your credit card on file will automatically be credited in 38 days, from the date that you cancel. Our billing system requires this time frame in order to allow for any unbilled activity or pending credits. This system requirement is to make sure that you are accurately refunded the correct amount due to you. Credits and refunds are applied to the method of payment we have on file. I apologize for any inconvenience and frustration that this may cause. If there is anything else we can do to assist you, please let us know.”

THEM (on their web site): “ALL SERVICES TO BE DISCONTINUED NO LATER THAN AUGUST 5, 2007 “

Great timing SunRocket. 33 days after I called, you went out of business with my $214.11 in your pocket. Give it back.

Contact your credit card company. AMEX gave me a pro-rated refund for a charge that sunrocket made against me in February. We’ll beyond the typical 30 day dispute range.

I paid for my year in February and they gave me a refund for July 16 2007-feb 2008. Don’t ask sunrocket for money. Their lawyers will burn up anything that remains.
