I gave my buddy the Atari Flashback 2 for Christmas. When I bought it I was tempted to keep it for myself. Who can resist all that 8-bit glory? Pitfall, Asteroids, Centipede and 37 other 1980s classics…man I wanted that system.
Fast forward to yesterday. I was shopping at Target with the needed $29.99 in my pocket and thought - “I shall not deny my return to Atari game glory any longer. The Flashback 2 will now be mine”. Big mistake.
To make a short post another paragraph longer, I’m taking the game console back today. The Flashback 2 does not have enough of the games I remember when I was a kid. Plus, I suck at Pitfall just like I did when I was 7 so that was a downer.
My brother-in-law and I spent the rest of the night trying to break 30,000 points on my plug-and-play Ms. Pac-Man joystick game. I am now the champion at 34,420. I rule.
Bottom line. Don’t buy the Atari Flashback 2 unless you’re REALLY into those old games. I think I was born about 18 months too late. Give me the original Nintendo system and a copy of Contra any day. Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start!!!
