Top 11 Mistake In Design Internet Page Creationism

BoratIn the spirit of the fictional Borat and with full knowledge that I may piss of more than a few fellow web professionals out there, I offer you my list of “Top 11 Mistake In Design Internet Page Creationism” (now with over 90% sarcasm):

  11. Spending so much time thinking about usability that you forget to create a decent web site that actually achieves the goals you built the damn thing to achieve in the first place.

Special thanks to the “king of usability” for a pretty good list that just needed one more item to make it complete for my purposes.

NOTE: I’m a raving #9 violator and proud of it. Firefox 2.0’s default function of opening “new window” links in new tabs helps me justify this even more these days.

Heheh, yes, i used to be a fan of number 9 too, until several people told me it was bad netiquette: “I’ll decide when i want a new browser window to open, thank you!” Like you, i also think that Firefox 2.0 standard of opening in a new tab by default is a really good idea, and surely means it could once again be considered good practise to link to other websites in a new tab …

I disagree with number 3. I actively dislike sites which make visited links a different colour. It feels like i have tainted a part of the site. I like consistency all round.

I think i’m guilty of number 5. I tend to specify my font sizes in px though i’m not entirely sure why. It’s just become a habit. I will look into how to make them scalable/resizable.

@Aimee — I had to check to see if the WordPress default template I’m using is also a #3 violator. I’m pleased to say that is violates Nielson’s visited link color law with flying (lack of changing) colors :)
